Fashion Deal: 1920s Revival
By Thuria Abuzamel
Hello fellow fashionistas!
Thanks for checking out the Orange and Blue blog! This semester, I will be posting weekly deals that major clothing and accessories stores are having. Whether it is from online or in-stores, I will choose must-have items and will show you how you can dress them for your body type.
This week, Francesca’s is having a Sale on Sale, meaning their sale items have an additional discount. What can be better than that? If you are looking for cute yet eclectic pieces, Francesca’s is the place to search. The sale includes a 30-percent-off sale on clothing, handbags, jewelry and accessories as well as a 50-percent-off sale on boots and shoes. Going on now, until Feb. 25!
One of my favorite sale items is the Fitzgerald dress because it is a modern twist to the 1920s fashion. If you want to look like a Great Gatsby character, this would be the dress to buy. It is fun and flirty but classy at the same time. Many designers such as Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and Marchesa have incorporated 1920s trends into their Spring 2013 collections for New York Fashion Week. It seems to be a new thing now to bring back styles from years ago. So if you are interested in keeping up with new trends, then the Fitzgerald dress is a must-have item to have in your closet.
Some of you may be wondering whether or not you can pull off this dress. Have no fear: I will tell you exactly how you can make this dress work for all body types. Whether you are slim or are a little curvier, the Fitzgerald dress has an elastic waistband and a loose fit which will give you a slimmer look.
To complete the look, pair the dress with a long necklace and a nice pair of heels. You will be ready to hit the town with your girlfriends! Currently, Nordstrom is also having a shoe clearance, and you can save 33 percent or more. In my opinion, Nordstrom is the best place to purchase shoes. They have a variety of shoes, and the best part of ordering online is that they have free shipping and returns all the time. If you get the wrong size or are not satisfied with the pair you got, you can just ship it back and try again. The Fitzgerald dress would look great when paired with a nude heel. You can do a pump or a strappy heel. However if you wish to fully complete the 1920s look, go with the strappy heel. Here is a general tip: If you want to give your gams some length, select a nude or a flesh-toned heel. This will create the illusion of longer, leaner legs. When you look tall, you feel tall.
Check out Francesca’s and Nordstrom’s online catalog for their sales. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any suggestions or questions about certain looks and deals.
Intro to Blogger: Thuria Abuzamel
Hey everyone! My name is Thuria Abuzamel, and I am a senior biology major with a huge interest in classic clothing, movies, and music. I have a peculiar obsession with Audrey Hepburn. I believe that no one can resist her charm and sense of style in her movies, so my obsession is acceptable. I have always had a passion for fashion and like to keep up with the current trends and integrate them into my style. Even though I love fashion and all its glamour, I am pursuing a career in public health and will be attending graduate school in the future.
