Balancing Cute & Cozy

The more we slowly creep into chillier weather, the more we see Ugg boots and The North Face fleeces pop up around campus. Although comfortable and cute (sometimes), there are alternative options for girls and guys I’d like to bring to light. Hopefully these looks will have you dreaming of a chic Christmas.

It’s understandable to gravitate towards what’s comfiest in your closet when the degrees start dropping. However, resorting to wearing house slippers outside of the house (yes, I’ve seen it…) is unacceptable!

For the girls, a great neutral bootie is easy to dress up and down. I love the “Martine” two-tone pair by See by Chloe ( The zipper on the side keeps things trendy, but not over the top. The heel isn’t going to break your ankle, so it’s totally daytime appropriate.

For the guys, seriously put the sandals away. Pale feet have no place in these temperatures! Cole Haan make a really sharp pair of penny loafers ( that won’t rob that bank. If you keep them nice and polished, they can be a great substitute for sandals and topsiders.

I’m a firm believer in all things J.Crew. The quality is amazing and they’re always having great sales. Even for Floridians, having at least one nice peacoat is a must. For trips of north or record-breaking lows, don’t underestimate good outerwear.

For the ladies, I adore the “Stadium-Cloth Boulevard Trench.” ( It has a Jackie O vibe and comes in fabulous colors. I love the smoky coral being modeled, but if you’re looking for something more neutral, I think the saddle color is quite chic.

For the gents, the ‘Authentic Bayswater peacoat” ( is a great piece. It doesn’t come in the same fun colors as its female counterpart, but my favorites are the navy (as shown on the model) and the charcoal. Add a few layers underneath and you’re prepared for winter!

Stay warm and happy shopping!
