Music Monday: The Flatliners Release Dead Language

By Mike Llerena

Canadian punk rock quartet The Flatliners have released their fourth studio album Dead Language. The album is currently available for streaming on Alternative Press’ official website.

It’s been three years since the release of the band’s previous full-length Cavalcade.

Dead Language finds The Flatliners in top form, kicking off with explosive opener “Resuscitation of the Year.” The band consistently demonstrates its ability to balance unbridled punk rage, melodious hooks and thoughtful lyrics. Lighter, mid-tempo jams like “Birds of England” and “Ashes Divide” temper the album’s more overall urgent pacing. The frenetic pulse and frequent mood shifts of “Brilliant Resilience” make for an excellent end to the record.

All in all, Dead Language is an essential for Flatliners fans. The band can still craft catchy punks anthems with the best of them. More importantly, they find a way to maintain their core sound while still throwing in some new tricks.

Following a string of North American tour dates, The Flatliners will make their way to Gainesville for the Fest 12.  The band will be playing at Florida Theater of Gainesville on Nov. 1.
