Swamp Talk: Homecoming Events

To most of us, Homecoming seems years away in the midst of midterms. But, good news: you won’t have to wait as long as you think for the festivities to start! Homecoming will kick off long before the Gators will and you can jumpstart your celebration next week. Don’t miss out on all of the events the Gator Nation has scheduled for you leading up to the big game.

Soul Fest

When: October 26 at 4:30 p.m.

Where: Stephen C. O’Connell Center

This multicultural event features a tabling fair, free international food and a talent show in which the winners get the chance to perform at this year’s Gator Growl.

 

Talent Night:

When: October 27 at 7 p.m.

Where: Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

Sit back and enjoy all that the student body has to show off. The annual talent show is an opportunity for your peers to win a performance spot in this year’s Gator Growl.

 

Homecoming Pageant:

When: October 29 at 7 p.m.

Where: Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

Enjoy watching UF’s finest compete in three rounds of competition: dance, Gator game casual wear and formal wear. The top three men and women will be revealed at the end of the night, but you will have to wait until Gator Growl to see your king and queen crowned.

 

Gator Jazz and Blues Fest

When: November 3 from 1-4 p.m.

Where: Flavet Field

This Homecoming concert is adding a twist this year. Not only will attendees be able to enjoy performances by UF Symphony Orchestra, UF Concert Choir and many more, but this year they will have the pleasure of viewing local artists’ work one week before the Gainesville Arts Festival.

 

Homecoming Parade

When: November 8 at noon

Where: University Avenue

This is the 90th year for UF’s Homecoming Parade, so come out and enjoy the show. There will be over 100 floats and many school-spirited performances.

 

SunTrust Gator Gallop

When: November 8 at 11:30 a.m.

Where: Percy Beard Track

Take part in the two mile run and escort the homecoming parade. Registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. Walkers and skaters begin at 11:15 a.m. and runners 11:30 a.m.

 

Homecoming BBQ at Gator Nation Tailgate

When: November 9: 2.5 hours before kick off

Where: Emerson Alumni Hall

This event will be catered by 4 Rivers Smokehouse and costs $10 for entry. Attendees will also enjoy entertainment and games.
