Fashion Friday: Five Easy Ways To Wear Plaid

By Karina Cuevas

‘Tis is thy season for flannel! What better way to welcome fall than wearing plaid? If you thought it was solely reserved for schoolgirls and Scots, think again. Here are five easy ways to rock the autumnal trend.

1. Layer with plaid

Pair a solid-colored sweater with a flannel top to create a layered look perfect for fall. To have more fun with the look, layer a patterned sweater, like a classic polka dot, over a plaid button-down shirt. Stick with a denim bottom or solid-colored leggings to avoid a print frenzy.

2. Tie a flannel shirt around your waist

Tie your go-to flannel shirt around your waist to revive the grunge look made most popular in the 90s. In warmer temperature, opt for a black quilted leather skirt instead of a skinny jean or leggings for a chicer vibe.

3. Revitalize the plaid skirt

Make a trendier use of your schoolgirl skirt by pairing it with a chunky sweater, dark tights and boots. You can also pair your plaid skirt with knee-high socks, cute booties and an oxford shirt for a trendier take on your old school uniform.

4. Accessorize with plaid

If you’re looking for just a touch of plaid to add to your fall outfits, try adding a plaid-patterned accessory, such as a scarf or bag.

5. Go for a menswear vibe

Throw on an oversized men’s plaid shirt or coat for a chic lumberjack look. Pile on accessories — and don’t forget your heels — for a feminine touch.
