Staying In? The Shows To Catch Up On

By: Ellen Villafuerte

It can be hard to keep up with your favorite shows when there are so many distractions standing between you and your TV–school, work, other people hogging the remote– but thanks to programs like Hulu and Netflix, it’s a lot easier to binge watch all the episodes you’ve missed whenever you get a break. Whether you’re already obsessed with these or are looking for something new, here are five popular shows to pass the time by.

  1. “House of Cards”

If you’re into political dramas that leave you wondering what’s going to happen next with one plot twist after another, then this is the show for you. The show’s main character, South Carolina Democratic congressman Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, will do whatever it takes to become more powerful in Washington, D.C. The show’s third season premieres Feb. 27, leaving you plenty of time to watch the first two seasons of the Netflix original.

  1. “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”

For some people, “Law & Order SVU” is something that’s on TV all the time and is good to watch when you’re having a lazy or sick day, but it’s usually not shown in order. If you haven’t binge watched this show, you’re missing out. Luckily, all 15 seasons are available on Hulu. The 16th season premiered in September, and Hulu even has all the episodes from this season so far. The current season is on NBC on Wednesdays at 9 p.m.

  1. “Orange is the New Black”

This is another Netflix original, and it’s loosely based on one woman’s account of her time in prison. Since this is another show exclusively on Netflix, you can count on 1) the show being great to watch and 2) being able to watch both seasons in one day, if you really want to/have the time. If you like crime, drama and comedy all rolled into one, check this out. There’s no set premiere date for the third season, but based on Netflix’s pattern, it should be out in early summer.

  1. “Parks and Recreation”

“Parks and Recreation” is what you need to watch if you need to de-stress and are looking for pure, original and underrated comedy. If you’re an avid fan of the show, then you know that unfortunately, the final season is already underway. Luckily, whether you want to catch up or want to get started watching, the show is available on both Netflix and Hulu (with the latest episodes of the final season on Hulu only). The final season currently airs on NBC on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

  1. “Bob’s Burgers”

“Bob’s Burgers” is another underrated comedy with so many jokes packed in, you may miss some of them. The show, as its title hints, is about a man named Bob who runs a burger place with his family. With Bob trying to support his family with his restaurant while his bitter rival working right across the street, the show surprises you with just how bad Bob’s luck is. The first three seasons are on Netflix, so tune in for some laughs.
